The Ministry of Science and ICT has announced the results of the 2023 Basic Research Projects selection. A total of 1,120 projects were selected, including seven leader research projects, 25 advanced research centers, 924 basic research, and 114 basic research laboratories covering various fields. Basic research projects are one of the best individual/group basic research projects that support the best domestic researchers. Since 1997, the leader research has supported 259 researchers with KRW 120 trillion, and the advanced research center has supported 434 projects for more than 30 years with KRW 2.9148 trillion. The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to strengthen national interest and support for basic science through the selection of the Basic Research Projects. In particular, the government plans to invest steadily in basic research and become a powerful country in basic research by enhancing the basic research evaluation/management system and expanding basic research to reflect national demand. Last year, the number of cases where emergency patients were delayed in transfer increased by nearly four times. This is because it takes time to confirm the acceptance of patients in medical facilities, among other things such as inquiries and phone calls. To solve this problem, the National Fire Agency (NFA) unveiled a medium- to long-term plan to reduce transfer delays by sharing patient information between 119 emergency medical services and nearby medical facilities in real-time. According to the plan, the work method of 119 emergency medical services will be improved and guidelines for emergency patient transfers will be prepared. Steps will be taken to minimize transfer delays so that patients can receive treatment quickly.
